Are you looking for something to do during quarantine? Why not pick up a classic novel like The Selection by Kierra Cass, The Ballad of Song birds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and The Kill Order.

The Selection by Kierra Cass is a great book about romance and government conspiracy. It follows the events of America Singer who got into the selection; a competition similar to “the bachelor”. It’s many girls competing for the heart of Prince Maxon for the opportunity to become Queen. It is a dystopian Universe type book and as the series continues you unravel the mysteries behind the founding of the government. It is addicting and keeps you wanting more. The characters are all frustrating, but enjoyable to read about. Unlike similar books in the genre that aren't the best, this book exceeded my expectations.

The ballad of song birds and snakes is an amazing book. It is a prequel book to the hunger games series. It follows the character Corelanus Snow; he is amongst the social elite and rich in a not so rich society. Follow the events of his life when he becomes a mentor in the 10th annual hunger games. It is a tale of betrayal, love, and action. It is sure to please lovers of the hunger games and anyone else interested in the Hunger Games World. Be aware that if you want to be fully fulfilled by the book it’s best to read the first books. It solves mysteries behind how certain elements of the hunger games were implemented and how certain songs Katniss Everdeen knew came to be.

Pride and Prejudice is an amazing classic story with not much intense action or plot. It is however entertaining and similar to a romcom type movie. It follows the events of the Bennets sisters after the wealthy Mr. Bingley moves to town. It is definitely worth all the good things said about it. It is filled with twists and turns and frustrating characters that keep you engaged and wanting more. It is good for a nice laugh from Elizabeth’s wit and intelligence and Mr. Darcy’s cluelessness is enjoyable too.

The Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a brilliant tale of survival. It follows the events of Brian Robeson’s life when he crash lands in a plane and must learn to survive on his own with few supplies. It deals with his struggles about his parents divorce and his struggles to survive the Canadian wilderness. It is definitely worth reading; It’s filled with mystery and has the feel of a classic without being over the top.

The Kill Order by James Dashner is one of the greatest books I've ever read and any must read list wouldn't be complete without it. You follow the events of Mark, Trina, Alec and others after the events of the sun flares. A natural disaster caused by an extreme heat wave across the globe. Learn of a deadly disease, a mission to save a little girl, and the secrets being kept by the book's government. It is action packed and sure to be enjoyed by anyone who loves thrilling stories about dystopian worlds.

These are just a few amazing books to read during quarantine. If you're interested in a book above, visit the LA County Library website to see about checking one out. For purchase options, Target.com has some of the best prices on physical copies of these books.
