The national scholarship program known as Questbridge has named eight SOAR students among its 6,312 finalists in its 2021 National College Match in results released Wednesday. They are Haya Ansari, Gia Rogers, Andrew Nakoud, George Nakoud, Evelyn Garcia, Karen Barrera, Marcha Daniels, and Brenda Gonzalez.
Questbridge partners with 46 colleges and universities from across the United States to offer full four-year scholarships to students. Last year, America Luna Herrera received a full-ride scholarship to CalTech after being named a finalist.
The next step in the process is for finalists to submit their match requirements by November 1. A month later, on December 1, finalists will know whether they are matched with one of the colleges they submitted in their application.
For Haya Ansari, Journalism’s Editor-in-Chief, the email alerting her that she was a finalist came as she was on her way to her Health Careers Academy class at Palmdale High School.
“I screamed so loud that all 100 eyes (from my classmates) turned my way,” she said.
Among her top choices are Stanford, MIT, Yale, Princeton, USC or UC Chicago.
