Missed Club Rush? Still interested in SOAR’s clubs? Here’s a short recap of all the clubs that are new or back for the 2021-2022 school year!
Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Club returns for its second year at SOAR. Founded at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, the club was formed to offer a safe space for members of the Hispanic/Latinx community at SOAR. Although seemingly exclusive due to its name ,its members say the club is open to anyone interested in being part of an inclusive group of open-minded students.
Current senior Justin Rubalcava, founder and current president of Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Club, stated that the main reason he began H&LHC was to offer students of the Hispanic/Latinx community a chance to come together. His aim was to offer something similar to Black Student Union (BSU) but for the Hispanic & Latinx community . He has made it available to all students, as there are no requirements to join and take part. Meetings are held in S-9 during lunch, on the first Friday of every month.
Justin's Comment: "Come on by. You guys are all welcome."
Book Club returns from a three-year hiatus for the 2021-2022 school year. Love reading, wholesome discussions, fun Kahoots, and an extremely friendly community? Then Book Club is for you! Meeting every other Monday lunch in S-4, Book Club explores multiple different genres of books. Fundraisers help Book Club purchase a book for every member to read, so everyone has a chance to follow along together. Only requirements: Keeping the base SOAR GPA, and being able to dedicate a bit of time to reading. “Join if you like to read, meet new people, and discuss books. It’s hard to find people of the same interests, Book Club brings it all together with a community of reading,” states Kathleen Steffy, this year’s president of Book Club. As aforementioned, Book Club meets every other Monday at lunch in S-4. Already in the Game Club? No problem! Book Club meets on the Mondays that Game Club is off.
Let your true musician shine at the brand new Music Club!
Have you ever wanted to be in a band, or start to play an instrument? Well, now's your chance! Welcome the recently formed Music Club founded by two SOAR freshmen, Alejandro Galindo and Alexis Aragundi. Music Club was made for students to have fun, chill out and learn or improve in playing instruments, and already has almost a whole three pages of students lined up ready to create music! And the club already has its first performance under its belt thanks to their performance at Back to School night.
The founders described their heartwarming goals during an exclusive interview with the SOARce, including projects still in the works for the club. One of their main goals is to be able to raise enough money so everyone in their club will be able to participate and enjoy learning how to play an instrument. On an exciting note we learned how the music club was planning events like battle of the bands and talent shows! All students are eligible to join and you can contact both founders to find out more information! Meeting times are currently during first period every Friday, but are subject to change.
