By Samantha Padilla

Preparing for the SAT in 2024 requires adaptability and a strategic approach to tackle this crucial step in the college admissions process. While the format of the SAT may remain consistent, the methods and resources available for preparation continue to evolve. Here are some valuable tips to help students navigate SAT preparation in 2024 effectively:

  1. Stay Updated: Keep abreast of any updates or changes to the SAT format, scoring, or policies for the year 2023. Stay informed through official College Board announcements and reliable educational sources to ensure your preparation aligns with the latest requirements.

  2. Utilize Online Resources: Take advantage of the plethora of online resources

available for SAT preparation, including practice tests, study guides, and interactive learning platforms. Websites like Khan Academy offer personalized study plans and practice questions tailored to individual strengths and weaknesses. AVID teachers and students are utilizing this resource. Hearing from Emily Martinez, a current junior preparing for the SAT, “To prepare for the SAT I am studying and trying to improve my math and reading skills. Using Khan Academy has been a big help because it tells me what I am doing well and what I need to improve on. In AVID, we take practice SAT tests and also use Khan Academy to show growth. I'm very nervous for the SAT but practicing will help me be prepared and not scared.”

3. Enroll in Online Prep Courses: Consider enrolling in online SAT prep courses offered by reputable educational institutions or test prep companies. These courses provide comprehensive content review, expert guidance, and structured study schedules to help students achieve their target scores.

4. Focus on Weak Areas: Identify your strengths and weaknesses through diagnostic tests and practice sessions. Devote extra time and attention to improving weaker areas, whether it's math concepts, reading comprehension, or essay writing skills.

5. Review Official Practice Tests: Work through official SAT practice tests released by the College Board to familiarize yourself with the format, question types, and difficulty level of the exam. Analyze your performance, identify patterns of errors, and adjust your study plan accordingly.

6. Seek Support and Guidance: Don't hesitate to seek support from teachers, tutors, or peers if you encounter challenges during your SAT preparation. Join online forums or study groups to share strategies, ask questions, and gain insights from others undergoing similar experiences.

7. Stay Motivated and Consistent: SAT preparation requires dedication and consistency over an extended period. Set realistic goals, track your progress, and celebrate milestones along the way to stay motivated and focused on your objectives.

8. Take Care of Yourself: Lastly, prioritize self-care and well-being during the preparation process. Get adequate rest, exercise, and nutrition to ensure your mind and body are in optimal condition for peak performance on test day.

By incorporating these tips into your SAT preparation routine, you can maximize your chances of achieving your desired score and opening doors to exciting opportunities in higher education. Remember, preparation is key, so start early, stay focused, and believe in your abilities to succeed!
