Martin Luther King Jr was an activist during the Civil Rights Movement. Known for his inspirational speeches he help give people hope and a voice. Every year on the third Monday of January we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr for the way he as impacted society for the better.

This year on January 20, 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s Day also known as MLK Day or King Day. This day of service also celebrates other civil rights leader’s life and the legacy that they left behind. It helps encourage every single American to volunteer for their community to better it and fight for what they believe in.

Through the inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi, King used the technique of fighting back through non-violence. He organized peaceful protest and when others fought back with violence king and his followers didn't fight back instead they did the right thing. An event that impacted history was the Montgomery Bus Boycott. During this movement African Americans refused to ride city buses unless they were treated equal and segregated seating was abolished.

The reason we celebrate in January is because it signifies his beginning of life, when he was born on January 15, 1929. On that day the world gained a person who would soon change the way people saw each other.

Overall Martin Luther King Jr Day is used to bring everyone together and allow they to help their community and the people around them.
