The United States has been seeing a rise in gun violence for the past couple of years and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. By looking at this bar graph made by the BBC in 2022 there were 647 mass shootings which means that there have been at least 2 mass shootings every day for the year. The handling of guns is out of hand while the US has the highest ratio of guns to people of 120.5 firearms for every 100 people. California, which is primarily Democratic, usually makes gun laws more strict compared to predominantly Republican states such as Texas which usually lessen the strictness of their laws after shootings, such as the Robb Elementary School and many others. From this, we can assume that many states implement different ways to deal with firearm violence, with Texas and many other primarily Republican-ran states often having more shootings than Democratic-ran states. Many Americans have stated that they want stricter laws when it comes to firearm purchasing although this is so broad that it is tough to pinpoint where in the process and how it should be implemented into the firearm purchasing system. Many have said that instead of being able to just get a license for a firearm, there should be different tests such as in regards to mental disabilities. In conclusion, gun violence is more than likely going to come up again in the US however, we can change this if we don't just make laws stricter but make the process of obtaining a firearm different, so they don't get into the wrong hands.
