Interested in a behind-the-scenes cinema experience? SOAR’s Film Club meets on Tuesdays during STAR hour in S-2 to explore the intricacies of film through various hands-on activities.
Film Club was created this school year, with President Jacqueline S. Barrazza, Vice President Alejandro V. Carbajal, Parliamentarian Rebecca Tauvar, Treasurer Demian C. Guzman, Historian Maximus Chang, and Fundraising Coordinator Anna Che. They sought to inspire people to create films relevant to themselves, and were able to do so with the help of their advisor, Mr. Swafford. Their meetings occur during STAR hour every other Tuesday in S-2. With their passion and motivation, they hope to reach all filmmaking enthusiasts.
Vice President Alejandro V. Carbajal stated “Join Film Club to be a part of the team, enjoy your time, and create your own stories.”Avid club member Noah Ferniza shared, “I’ve enjoyed that people are presenting the meetings themselves. Since I’ve joined the club I have learned how the color and saturation levels of a scene impact the emotions expressed in a film. I would recommend this club for those who want to learn about film or motion pictures.”
Up to this point, they have hosted many workshops covering writing, filmmaking basics, and lighting. Each of their meetings is accompanied with tasks to further develop a particular skill. These activities are fully for beginners, even for those who are simply curious. They have no requirements for members, besides attending their meetings. In the near future they plan to complete a short film led fully by students, so make sure not to miss out!
Be on the lookout for our next issue, where we will explore another incredible club!
