On September 1st, 2021, Texas Governor Greg Abbott enacted a new abortion restriction. This restriction is being banned "from providing an abortion‑inducing drug to a pregnant woman without satisfying the applicable informed consent requirements for abortions,". This basically means a pregnant person cannot take a drug that will kill the baby without permission.
Due to this restriction being enacted protests begin to rise. In this issue, there are two sides to the argument, pro-life and pro-choice. Mary Ziegler, an American Legal Historian explains that “there are people on both sides with I think sincere and really profound convictions. I think some of those are driven by morality, some of those are driven by personal experience, some of those are driven by religion and those just aren’t going to change anytime soon”. With this, it can be inferred that such an issue existed back then, exists now, and will continue to exist.
To further explain both sides of this, pro-life is the argument that abortion is murder and that a baby has a right to live a life. Pro-choice is the argument that women have a right to abortion and they get to choose what happens to their bodies. Finally, whatever side a person agrees with or maybe agrees with none at all, this is a topic that should be discussed more and brought to attention. It would be best to not only listen to or only search for one side but look at both sides.
