Back to School Night

Welcome back SOAR Stars! Back to School Night on August 12th signaled the beginning of a new year and a fresh start. For many freshmen, this event was their first introduction to student life at SOAR outside of academics. After all, many students are initially drawn here for the chance to take college classes alongside high school and not many people are aware of the many extracurriculars SOAR offers!

So if you missed Back to School Night or just need a recap, here’s a few clubs that showed up and showed out.

Some of SOAR’s most prominent clubs are back again and better than ever! Dance Club, Black Student Union, QSA, GirlsBuild, and Robotics are just a few returners that participated in Club Rush. While Dance Club dazzled newcomers with a video presentation of past performances, Robotics wowed parents and students alike with their decorative booth and flashy robot! Music Club entertained the crowd with vocal and band performances while families and friends snacked on hot dogs, chips, and soda. And as the sun began to set, other returners like Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Club, Middle Eastern and North African Club, SWEnext, and Sports Club openly welcomed newcomers to their booths. Service clubs also joined the fray like the California Scholarship Federation (CSF), National Honor Society (NHS), and Key Club!

Back to School Night also marked the first appearances of some new clubs including Chess Club and Future Student Medical Leaders. First-time clubs last year like Fashion Club, Mental Health Awareness, and Book Club made dazzling first impressions on Freshman with glamorous booths and candy galore! You could also check out your class Senate, Earth Club, and Speech Club! Finally, Yearbook began to accept deposits to buy the 2022-2023 yearbook!

All in all, a LOT of clubs came to Club Rush. If you want to join a club or are simply confused about how many there are, there’s a list provided at the bottom of this post. And if you saw the list and didn’t find something you are passionate about, make your own club! SOAR students are academics, scholars, and leaders but we’re also poets, artists, designers, advocates, athletes, and dreamers. We are people who make a difference and shape our own future. We are SOAR Stars. Welcome back everyone!
