Are you staying in shape?

By Crystal Mobaraka

Being a SOAR student means that you often prioritize your academic well-being over your mental and physical health. This article is a way to guide you through what teenagers should be doing to ensure that they are living a healthy and happy lifestyle. Here are some of the minimum requirements of what a teen should be doing in their day-to-day life:

  • Teens should be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day whether that be walking, exercising, or just exploring one of your more physical hobbies

  • Consuming a healthy diet of at least three meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner (with 2 snacks in between)

  • When maintaining this healthy diet make sure you get an equal amount of fruit, vegetables, grains, protein, and low-dairy products

** You can eat as many snacks as you would like during the day as long as you have a balance between the snacks and actual food that you are consuming

  • This may seem weird but washing your hands often and staying hygienic

  • Getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night and no sleeping during the day plus minimal naps

  • Drinking about 6 to 8 cups of water a day and restricting sugary or carbonated drinks to at least once a week if not less

  • Very cliche but staying in touch with friends and family because they are always going to be there for you through any process whether that be mental or physical

If you are ever wondering if you are doing the right things to take care of your body, you can always come back to this article and make sure that you are following these simple steps, and remember to pace yourself. Not everything has to be done perfectly, and there will be good days and bad days, but you will be leading a more balanced life if you follow through with this list.
