ANT-MAN QUANTU "MEH"NIA

By Matthew Ochoa

Marvel movies are a gamble nowadays. You might get something that can be considered a masterpiece and rewatchable, or get something that is forgettable that you could have just waited for when they released it on Disney Plus. Ant-Man and The Wasp Quantumania is no different with varying mixed opinions and is considered to be one of the more failing Marvel Brand films. However, this movie is not the worst and you can still have some fun with it.

The movie takes place after Avengers Endgame with Scott Lang (Played by Paul Rudd) bathing in his success as a heroic Avenger who stopped the Mad Titan Thanos. However, his daughter Cassie (Played by Katheryn Newton) believes he has been lost in his vanity and forgotten what it means to be a hero. After accidentally setting off a trap, Scott, Cassie, Hope (Played by Evangeline Lilly), Hank (Played by Michael Douglas), and Janet (Played by Michelle Pfeiffer) are pulled into the Quantum Realm and must escape before Kang (Played by Jonathan Majors) finds them and destroys them. This film takes the viewer through its many ups and downs with characters sometimes acting unusual from past films they were featured in or it feeling like they just make some of the dumbest decisions you have ever seen. This movie will kick off phase 5 for the future of Marvel so to see something lackluster at best can be disappointing. But the movie does one thing incredibly right and that is setting up the next major villain to dethrone Thanos and that is Kang the Conqueror. Jonathan Majors’ acting within this film is second to none and brilliantly sets up how ruthless and selfish this antagonist can and will be. Most of the fight scenes featuring Kang are done well and are quite brilliant to watch.

If you are interested in watching this film with friends I would highly recommend it as the movie does feature actual funny moments that can sometimes help you overlook the average “Marvel Humor” and Kang is amazing to see. If you do wish to watch this on your own however I recommend waiting until Disney Plus makes this film streamable. In the meantime perhaps be excited to watch CREED III, another film featuring Jonathan Majors as a brutal antagonist with much higher stakes and more of an emotional impact.
