Amazon Rainforest Reaches New Record For Deforestation

By Chloe Gordon

Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research has reported that the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest has hit a new record. During the first three months of 2022, three-hundred sixty-three square meters of the rainforest have been cleared. This is almost sixty-five percent more than last year’s deforestation. This unfortunate event occurred due to President Jair Bolsonaro claiming that protection of the environment would decrease the economic growth of Brazil. His actions have been occurring since his election of 2019.

The best way to combat this is for the Brazilian government to listen to its citizens and protect its environment. Furthermore, they must vote for people in their government who promise to protect the land around them.
