It’s that time of year again when everyone starts barking about the Antelope Valley’s favorite early autumn event: Bark at the Park! This yearly event is hosted at Sgt Steve Owen Memorial Park on the first Saturday of October. This year, Bark at the Park is on October 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is open to everyone willing to come and have fun. However, humans are not the only ones invited to this spectacular occasion. Dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome to get in on the fun with their owners; just make sure they are well-behaved and leashed at all times.

If you’re unfamiliar with this one-of-a-kind occasion, it is an opportunity to socialize yourself and your dog(s) with others and enjoy a day at the park. There will be delicious food, fun games, live entertainment, and more. Some activities you can expect to participate in include the Canine Good Citizen Test, Man’s Best Friend Contests, urban sledding, and lure coursing. If you’re unfamiliar, the Canine Good Citizen Test challenges your dog’s ability to be an upstanding citizen to people and other dogs alike. Hosted by the High Desert Obedience Club and costing $10 per test, participating puppies will go through a series of 10 exercises that determine their capabilities to follow their owners’ commands, socialize with other canines, and positively interact with strangers, among other things. On the other hand, the Man’s Best Friend Contests will test your bond with your dog by allowing you to show off your puppy’s greatness through tricks, dressing up, and other fun categories. For more information on Bark at the Park activities, visit the event’s official website at www.lancasterbarkatthepark.org.

If you're not yet convinced to attend this once-a-year celebration of dogs, you might change your mind once you hear about SOAR's participation in the event. That's right, SOAR's Music Club is officially confirmed to perform. Join SOAR students, community members, and adorable dogs on October 7th at Sgt Steve Owen Memorial Park for your chance to make memories that will last a lifetime. Your furry friends will thank you! !
