  1. Decorate your space with holiday-themed decor

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than by decorating your room with festive decor! Some holiday decoration ideas include mini stockings, holiday candles, a mini Christmas tree, or lights.

2.) Attend parades and festivals

Is there a better way to ignite some holiday spirit than by treating yourself to some holiday treats? Luckily, parades and festivals tend to have lots of them, so mark your calendars for upcoming parades and events. The AV Chambers of Commerce are hosting a Holiday Parade on December 4th. Join them at 10 a.m. for a North Pole Party on Lancaster BLVD.

3.) Get cozy for a Christmas movie marathon

Another way to get in the spirit is hosting your own event—in your living room. Whip out the blankets, Christmas cookies, hot chocolate, and your favorite Christmas movies and host a movie marathon. If you’re having trouble picking what to watch, take a look below for some recommendations.

  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas

  • The Polar Express

  • Home Alone

  • The Santa Clause

4.) Go ice skating

Baby, it's cold outside...but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy outdoor activities within the comfort of four walls. Visit your local ice skating rink to have some fun and get your body moving. Try out The Cube in Santa Clarita.

5.) Host a holiday party

Want to make memories in the comfort of your own home? Host a holiday party of your own. Make it a potluck and invite your friends. Be sure to stay COVID-safe. Layout your best roasted red potatoes, fluffy bread rolls, cheesy risotto, or just a simple salad.

6.) Give back to your community

It is always important to get involved in community service. This holiday season presents many more opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those in need of financial or emotional support. Do a random act of kindness. Donate a turkey, toys, clothes, or food. Remember giving back to your community does not have to be through a formal non-profit establishment. It is just about helping. You could make care kits for the homeless, help out your elderly neighbor, or even bring cookies and thank-you cards for Antelope Valley Hospital workers.

7.) Cook or bake something new

Love Christmas cookies? Why not bake them yourself! Fill your house with sweet scents of the holidays, search up a recipe online that you've been meaning to try out, and get started!

8.) Read a book

Winter break is the perfect time to get cozy and finally read that book you've been dying to read. For those who don't quite know what to read but would like to, here are some recommendations:

  • Pride and Prejudice

  • They Both Die in the End

  • In Five Years

  • Tuesdays with Morrie

9.) Take a day trip

Love the snow but live in Lancaster? Take a short getaway to the mountains for some snow. Whether you rent a cabin or spend just a few hours in the hills, a quick trip will make this holiday season one to remember.

10.) Make a gingerbread house

Whether from scratch or a pre-made set, making a gingerbread house is a staple of celebrating the holidays. Get creative and make it a challenge between you and your friends or family to create the best gingerbread house.
